Happy 30th, Alyssa!

Seeing that Alyssa’s about to turn 30, I thought it fitting to offer a glimpse into the heart and soul of this lovely woman. Being her mom might make me a little biased, but if you know her you know I’m speaking the truth.

Alyssa is - first, foremost and always - a lover and worshipper of Jesus. From the time she tearfully gave her life to Him at 3 years old (no lie), she’s been a captivated follower, trusting Him to guide her every step. She’s a deep thinker, a gifted writer/artist/photographer/mentor, most at home in her studio working on a creative project or making memories with her boys.

If you stick around long enough to get past her introverted nature you’ll realize she’s quick-witted and hilarious, and don’t be surprised if the funny things boldly coming out of Matt’s mouth didn’t come from her first. She loves fiercely and would sacrifice all for her family. No matter how tired, sleep-deprived or stretched she might be, she’s always going to find it within her to say yes when River wants her to draw another volcano or Cyrus wants to share his latest discovery. She is endlessly patient and never misses an opportunity to snuggle with her boys or teach a life lesson or make a memory. Watching her parent these two rambunctious little cherubs with such gentleness and intentionality is truly one of the great joys of my life.

This beautiful 29-year-old is and always has been wise beyond her years. If you’ve read her blog posts you know she’s committed to living life fully, to lifelong learning and adventure, and to serving those around her. After 10 years she’s still crazy in love with her husband and intent on doing all the things to keep that relationship strong.

I think if I could have a look inside her brain, it would be packed full of color and vibrance and beautiful words and new ideas. She comes alive with new ideas, whether it’s plans for a trip or a party or a home project. But most often her ideas and ventures are rooted in ministry and serving others. And one of the things I appreciate so much about her is her quick readiness to get behind my ideas. We sort of feed off of each other that way.

As we’re on the cusp of launching She Rises, let it be known I could not do this without her. Not only is she my web designer, social media manager, marketing director and photographer, she’s my person to bounce ideas off of and my biggest cheerleader. She’s passionate about building community and instilling in women and girls of all ages a deep sense of value and worth as His beloved. She’s talented in more ways than anyone realizes and the perfect fit for this spot.

Alyssa, you’re one of a kind! Your heart shines brightly and I’m so glad to be in the path of those rays. You are one in whom His spirit flows most freely. I love you, my dear, to the moon and back infinity times. May your next 30 be richly blessed!
