Alyssa's Home Office Renovation

As I sit here at my desk typing out these words, it feels like the only appropriate intro to this post should be a deep exhale. Not because the project was so strenuous or time intensive, but because this space has become so much more than just a place to hold my neatly organized files or a spot to edit images and write uninterrupted. For the last five years, this room has held my sleeping babies, with blinds drawn and lights dim. We used to tip-toe across the hardwood floors in the early hours of the morning past this room to pour coffee or fix breakfast. An old quilt shoved against the crack where the door meets the floor became as much a part of the room as the dining table or sofa.

At the beginning of this year I shared my desire with Matt. A space to be inspired— if only during nap times and early mornings. Windows with curtains always open for the sunlight to come pouring in, plants that would share their oxygen and their energy, my happy place. To make the desire a reality, it meant Cyrus gaining a roommate upstairs. While the change has certainly been an adjustment for everyone, in many ways it has been a tremendous blessing. No more tip-toeing after 7pm and whispered conversations on the blue tufted sofa just outside the nursery door.

I don’t know how long this room will remain my creative workspace or what it may need to become in the future, but for this season I am soaking in every moment I can.

A humungous thank you to my incredible husband for building me this gorgeous desk and my mom for helping me transform this little space.
