Timeless Childhood Pleasures

Rites of passage for being young (that never get old)

  • Jumping in mud puddles

  • A bubble bath during the day

  • Popsicles on the porch

  • A trip to the local library

  • Picnics in the living room. Or on the porch. Or anywhere for that matter.

  • A designated family movie night

  • Digging for worms after a rain shower

  • Watching a thunderstorm from the front porch

  • Building a blanket fort

  • Finding a good tree-climbing tree

  • Reading chapter books aloud together

  • Water play (be it a kiddie pool or sprinkler or water gun)

  • Sleepovers with grandparents

  • Sleeping on sleeping bags somewhere else in the house

  • A spontaneous trip to get smoothies or frozen yogurt

  • Random family dance parties

  • A $5 bill and a trip to the Target dollar spot

  • Reading under the covers with a flashlight before bed

  • Blowing on dandelions

  • Drawing pictures for hours on end

  • Eating breakfast for dinner

  • Feeding the ducks at the pond

  • Making a new friend on the playground

  • Being barefoot in soft grass

  • Any “secret” space
